Silent cactus

It isn't a cementery... but the silence and the wind can recreate so many things in middle of the cactus. As if they walk direct the hill praying for their lifes.

No, no es un cementerio... pero el silencio y el viento pueden recerear tantas cosas en medio de los cactus. Como si ellos caminaran directamente hacia el cerro pidiendo por sus vidas.

Weaving baskets

Moche artisans used to weave reed baskets of all sizes for different uses. Some of them work on this for fifty years.

Estos artesanos de Moche usan carrizo para tejer canastas de diferentes tamaños, para diversos usos. Algunos de ellos trabajan en este oficio desde hace cincuenta años.

Copper elephant

I visited artisan workshops this week, today I met a group of artisans who work with cow bones and sheets of copper, this image can only see one stage of its production process ... Copper Elephant, each measuring no more than a centimeter. At first sight this can look like chocolates :-)

Esta semana visité talleres de artesanos, hoy llegué al taller de un grupo de artesanos que trabajan con huesos de vaca y láminas de cobre, en esta fotografía sólo podemos ver una etapa de su proceso de producción... elefantes de cobre, cada uno de ellos no mide más de un centímetro. A simple vista podrían verse como chocolates en forma de elefantes :-)

Spondylus

Spondylus is a big mollusk, it was used in pre inca age like jelwery and any kind of coin. This little stars and seahorse is part of a set of jelwery, there are not ready but they look beautiful.

Moche decapitator in mud

Moche culture has an famous icon, it's the Moche Decapitor. If you visit moche you'll find a lot of souvenirs with this icon.

Decapitator

Moche Culture has a figure called the Decapitator, mostly depicted as a spider, but also depicted as a winged creature or a sea monster all three features symbolizing land, water and air. We can see this figure in the "Huaca de la Luna", showing different expresions.

Some artisans use the Decapitator in many souveniers... but this time I saw its shape in a mirror, and I like it a lot, besides my eyes look rare but the mirror is nice :)

La Cultura Moche tiene una personaje llamado el Degollador , mayormente representado como una araña, pero también se le describe como una criatura alada o un monstruo marino con los tres elementos que simbolizan la tierra, el agua y el aire. Podemos ver esta figura en los frisos interiores de la "Huaca de la Luna", donde muestra diferentes expresiones.

Algunos artesanos usan al Degollador en los souvenirs... esta vez ví un espejo con su forma, me gustó mucho, y aunque mis ojos se vean raros, el espejo es lindo :)

Chaman

I'm really sorry for not posting anything for several days… but, I'm back again :)

This is the representation of a Chaman (Wizard), that was the mystical doctor of the old cultures that inhabited old Peru. This was a very special person for the governors and citizens. Some days ago. some tour operators displayed their tourist supply in a small exhibition, and this Chaman was in Moche.

Esta es la representación de un Chamán, quien era el médico naturista y místico de las culturas antiguas que habitaron el antiguo Perú. Era una persona muy especial para los gobernantes y ciudadanos. Hace algunos dias, varios tour operadores presentaron su oferta turística en una pequeña exposición. Este Chamán está en Moche.

Moche Ceramics

If you go to Moche (15 minutes from Trujillo City), you'll see peolpe sell ceramics and little artcraft, some of these ceramics is own of moche style, almost identical to ceramic found in "Huaca de la Luna". My prefer is this duck, "warrior duck"!, the original ceramic was found in the tumb of importat people.

Huaca de la Luna

The "Huaca de la Luna" is an adobe brick temple built by the Moche civilization on the north coast of Peru, in Moche (a district of Trujillo). You can visit just for $4.

The huaca was decorated in registers of murals which were painted in black, bright red, sky blue, white, and yellow. The sun and weather has since faded these murals away, but other murals used in earlier phases of construction can still be seen inside the Huaca.

More Mud

Mud is very used in north coast of Peru, since many centuries ago... last post "mud bricks" is a way, another is making different objects, practical and decorative, this is an ancient custom from Moche Culture. We know many things of Moche people for thier ceramics, where they show all of their lifes.

Mud bricks

In Moche, a district of Trujillo, some people rent farm spaces to use minerals and clay that contains and to make mud bricks called "adobes".

These two men produce 1000 bricks in one day. When they finish using the land, they will give back it to the farmer who no longer will be able to cultivate so easy because this one already lost its mineral wealth.

Gourd birdhouses

This gourds are handpainted by moche artists, they belong to Art School and sell this gourds to foreign people, because in Peru, people don't use this products for nests o birdhouses, but this young people is creating new products for local consumers... it's a challenge for them.
