Mud bricks

In Moche, a district of Trujillo, some people rent farm spaces to use minerals and clay that contains and to make mud bricks called "adobes".

These two men produce 1000 bricks in one day. When they finish using the land, they will give back it to the farmer who no longer will be able to cultivate so easy because this one already lost its mineral wealth.

My, that's a lot of bricks and back braking work. Interesting about the land use and loss of minerals.

Is it a renewable source of building material though. Will the land recover after a few years.

THe land will take many generations to recover. You can't just put minerals back into the soil. Not the clay that makes the adobes.

Having said that, the photo captures a way of life and I am grateful to be able to see it.

Hopefully there are some crops which will fix nutrients in the soil quickly enough to soon produce a crop. Hopefully.

This is another fascinating piece of traditional practice that you are showing here! Are the bricks dried out in the sun or cooked in an oven?

THe comment about loss of minerals in the soil is worrying...
