Señora de Cao

Well, this is the "Señora de Cao" (Lady of Cao)... As part of the celebrations for 469 years old of Magdalena de Cao (the place where mummy of this lady was found), the Señora de Cao walked around the Main Square of Trujillo. But, today was a hard day, President of Peru visited the city without programming and some people wanted to protest for some problems, anyway, everything was great.

I like the henna tattoos. Whats the significance of the tape across the mouth. [I'm sure many men could give there own reasons.]

I don't like the looks of this. Is she walking to her doom?

Fascinating images. I'd like to know more about this tradition and the costumes - especially why the woman's mouth is closed.

gracias,
Cecilia
